GLASS ART

Plumbobs Galore

Inspired by The Sims, these are glass blown Plumbobs blown into a metal mold to create the 6-sided shape. Six of them were made and then cut and sanded so that the halves could be guled together to create the whole plumbob shape. Frit was used for the colors. A hole at the top was made and string was threaded through so that they can hang.
Being inspired by one of my favorite games, I want to take pictures with people underneath the plumbobs and have them act out the mood in which plumbob they were under, pretending to be actual Sims!

Nature in my Hands

This piece was made from casting a mold of my own hands. First my hands were placed and molded in an alginate mix. When that was done, hot wax was poured over the alginate hand mold and left to cool. From there, a plaster/silica mold was made over the wax hands. Then, the plaster/silica mold was filled with little pieces of glass and was melted in a kiln. After the hands were casted, the greenery and rocks were glued into the hands to create this naturistic scene.
Nature is an important part of life and I wanted to create a piece that shows that the world is smaller than you think, "I've got the whole world in my hands."

5-Sided Plumbob

Done before the other plumbobs for a practice run, this piece came out better than expected! The bigger half painted plumbob was painted with oil paints and the other half left unpainted because the optics in the glass were too cool to cover up! The two smaller ones were painted with acrylic paint and not glued together because the optics on the insides of them came out great.

Raindrop Vase

I love water and water sports and so wanted to create a vase that looked like a water droplet. The color blue was chosen because water normally gives off a nice blue tint and the bubbles inside the glass were put there intentionally because water has bubbles! The top of the vase was going to be pointed like a normal water drop, but as I was pulling it out, I really liked the water drop effect the little edges made, creating a splash like effect. The blue was created with blue stringers in a mold and then flipped over on the bubble to create a wave-like effect.

Blink-182 Paper Weight

Inspired by the band, "Blink-182" this piece was made to be a heavy paper weight. Starting out with just a small piece of sheet glass, I painted the design on the sheet glass with glass paint. After the paint was dry, it was put into the kiln to be melted into the glass permenently. Then, the sheet glass was picked up over a big hot glob of glass and was shaped into the paper weight shape.
Music and art represnt my life and so this piece was made to show just that... And to hold my artwork down when working outside!

Glowing in the Dark
Inspired by the movie, "Tangled" these lanterns are made out of glass. Hot shop blown cup at first, then cold shop cut in half and the bottom cut out. Glued to an 8x11'' sheet of glass with UV glue. Then everything painted over with acrylic paint. On the bottom of the sheet of glass is wood holding it up and underneath are little fake flickering candles for a lantern effect.
I love painting and so wanted to combine my love of glass along with paint and the best scene from one of my favorite Disney movies, "Tangled!"

Glass Pumpkins

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, so it would make sense to make glass pumpkins! The clear one on the left is a fully glass blown pumpkin. The small one in the middle is completely solid and the sides of the pumpkin created by a grooved mold. The pumpkin on the right is completely solid too (and very heavy!). It has another smaller solid pumpkin on the inside of it and then again made with a grooved mold. Frit colors!
